Nitrogen Generation Truck for Pipeline Purging: RFQ Scope

A pipeline-purging project needs an agreed nitrogen supply contribution, not a promise that one truck will achieve every purge endpoint under any pipeline condition.

Obtain the approved supply requirement

The responsible pipeline team should establish the process basis, acceptance endpoint and required nitrogen delivery schedule. Procurement can then ask the truck supplier to respond to that accepted demand. Do not substitute a generator catalogue capacity for the pipeline engineering assessment. Line condition, receiving arrangement and the approved method can affect demand, but a buying guide cannot establish a safe universal purge sequence.

Define gas quality and volume together

State the accepted composition, moisture and flow basis at the agreed connection. Distinguish total campaign quantity from instantaneous demand and identify any minimum delivery pressure. A nominal nitrogen production rate does not prove the required gas will remain acceptable throughout the schedule. Keep the separator, prepared air, any booster and storage response connected to the same demand cases in the supplier offer.

Separate continuous demand from peaks

Provide the planned timing and any periods when the receiving process will not accept gas. Ask the bidder for supported low-demand, normal and peak cases. If storage contributes to short peaks, request usable inventory and recovery assumptions. A generation package sized for average consumption may leave a larger momentary requirement uncovered, while a peak-rated package may need a defined response during pauses.

Assign external distribution responsibilities

Identify the truck delivery boundary and the party responsible for the connected pipeline equipment, metering and process acceptance. Connection supply does not automatically include design of the whole external arrangement. Keep gas release, workplace atmosphere protection and field approval with the competent project team. The provider should supply configuration-specific information needed for that review without claiming that its truck alone establishes a safe complete operation.

Compare acceptance and interruption terms

Ask how accepted volume and quality will be recorded and how an interruption affects the supply obligation. Clarify backup responsibilities, site waiting periods and the treatment of gas not accepted by the process. Supplier performance and pipeline completion are related but distinct commitments. A truck can meet an agreed supply case without independently proving that the project’s endpoint has been achieved.

Keep supply records tied to the accepted campaign

Ask how waiting, interrupted receiving capacity and rejected gas will be distinguished in the supplier records. A long running period or large cumulative production reading may not establish the accepted contribution to the pipeline program. Retain the approved demand basis with actual delivery evidence so commercial reconciliation does not depend on assuming that every generated volume reached the intended process.

Do not turn the application into a performance guarantee

A nitrogen generation truck can support a reviewed pipeline program when its accepted supply matches the requirement. It does not establish blanket suitability for every product, pipeline or atmosphere. Retain the process owner’s approved requirement, provider limitations and external interface scope. Use that basis to compare offers and records rather than infer completion from operating time or nameplate production alone.

Suggested wording for the quotation request

Quote nitrogen generation supply against the attached approved pipeline demand, gas-quality limits and delivery conditions. State supported operating cases, usable volume basis and any storage contribution. Identify truck and external distribution boundaries, accepted-volume records, interruptions and backup exclusions. Separate the nitrogen supply commitment from pipeline method approval and verification of the final process endpoint.

Specify the nitrogen generation truck against accepted gas quality, usable flow, delivery pressure and duration at one identified boundary. Keep the actual feed-air compressor, treatment, separation technology, drive and any booster or buffer in the same review. Record volume reference conditions, environmental assumptions and external responsibilities. Separate catalogue maxima do not establish simultaneous delivery, and a photograph does not identify all included components. On-site generation is not liquid-nitrogen pumping or vaporization. Actual operation, maintenance and gas handling require competent personnel, configuration-specific manufacturer information and approved project procedures.

Buyer questions

Does generator capacity determine the required purge duration?

No. The competent pipeline team establishes the approved process requirement and acceptance basis.

Can a truck supply guarantee replace pipeline completion evidence?

No. Accepted nitrogen delivery and verification of the process endpoint are separate responsibilities.

Background and supplier contact

OSHA guidance on nitrogen and other inert-gas hazards offers related background, not certification of the equipment in a quotation. Applicability must be checked for the project and destination.
